Lady Bisons Drop Five-Set Match to Alaska-Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Harding junior outside hitter Manuela Nesheva notched her fifth career 30-kill match but the Lady Bisons fell 3-2 to hosts Alaska-Anchorage at the Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational. Game scores were 25-23, 19-25, 23-25, 26-24, 15-6. It was Harding's second loss Friday, as the Lady Bisons also fell 3-1 to Texas Woman's earlier in the day.

With the loss, Harding (0-2) will play Ohio Valley twice Saturday. The first match will be at 4 p.m. Central Time with the consolation match to follow. Alaska-Anchorage and Texas Woman's will also play twice Saturday with the second match serving as the tournament's championship.

For the second straight match, Harding had more kills than its opponent. The Lady Bisons had 74 kills to Alaska-Anchorage's 69, but Harding struggled to overcome 19 attack errors and 13 service errors.

Nesheva, who led NCAA Division II in kills per game, had 30 kills and hit .410. She now holds Harding's top five single-match kill marks since 1997.

Shellie Rummer also had an outstanding match with 11 kills and no errors on 25 attacks for a .440 hitting percentage. Leah Tepe had 62 assists and 17 digs, and Emily Tate added 21 digs.

Rhea Cardwell led Alaska-Anchorage with 24 kills, and Rachel Kidwell added 21.
